New Weight Loss Journey

I have reached the point in my life that I’m quite happy with what’s to come.
I’m in charge of my own care, and my depression isn’t as severe as it once was. I now have periods of weeks without an episode.

I’ve written a novel and am already making great progress with a second one while sending the first out to publishing houses. And I’m going gang ho looking for work!
The only thing that I currently am not in control of is my weight.

Which really, brings us to this new post in a very long time on this blog I started to help deal with the loss of my mother.

After finding myself, which is still a huge battle some days. I’m in need of losing weight.
I currently weigh 168.4 kilos. And my waist measuring around my stomach hip to hip is 162cms wide! That’s so not where I want to be right now with so much going on in my life.

Now I’ve tried diets in the past, from meal replacement shakes, to lite an easy and Jenny Craig. They all work, but only for a short time.

I was losing weight on the meal replacements, but it tapered out at 165 kilos for months and I was basically starving myself for nothing.

Lite an easy was quite amazing, and it worked for me for the months I tried it. But I couldn’t keep up with the expense as well as having to make ‘real meals’ for others in my household.

Now I’ve done a lot of research. And I know what foods I’m going to have to cut out. Unfortunately, potatoes are my favourite food.

That being said. Using food within the fridge and pantry I’m going to stick to a diet of my own making. While posting these new blogs the idea is that I can find some encouragement as well as new meal ideas rather than 1 meat and 3 veg that seems to be a staple in this household. Keeping it cost effective as right now money is tight.
So, my self-imposed rules are:

1. Cut out bread.
2. Cut out potatoes.
3. Have at least two vegetables with each evening meal.
4. Nothing deep fried.
5. No fatty takeaways. Which means no KFC Wicked wings!
6. No junk food!! i.e. Chocolate, chips, lollies.
7. A serving of fruit daily.

I hope with calorie counting, exercise and cutting out the ‘unhealthy’ items this might work. I’m now in the headspace that I should be able to do it with some hard work and determination!

This is an experiment of my own making, after trying all the fad diets out there. I’m trying it all on my own.

Wish me luck!

Successful Week

5000 steps a day so far, with three this week going up into the 7000s. I’ve got the standard allergies from the spring weather. All the pollen in the air will kill me one day!

The Pokemon Go event this weekend helped as well, trying to complete the special research task had me out and about walking around catching the certain type of critters needed was brilliant, I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed walking around seeing what Pokemon pop up.

It’s something Im going to have to get back into playing, even though it’s a technology based game that has you starring at your screen for hours at a time, it also gets you out into the community, I’ve spoken to so many different people over the weekend, each feeding off of, and sharing the joy that comes with catching a shiny Pokemon.

After all of that I’m down in my weight this week, only a little but from 170.6 kilos to 169.8 Kilos is a success this week for me.

My waist size hasn’t changed this week, but I’m due for my monthly cycle to begin, bloating is expected.

This week I’m going to up my step goal again and start going star jumps.

I was able to completely cut out my potatoes this week easier than the bread. This week I’m going to try harder to substitute the cravings for bread.

Update

I know it has been a month since I last updated.

It’s been a month, so crazy I haven’t even had time to sit down and write anything.
Add to that, the fact that I’ve had internet outages for the last few months thanks to

Telstra that has ended with me having to hot spot off my poor mobile data for everything.

To say it was stressful is an understatement.

It also made me really see how depended I am on the internet. Everyday I check my emails, apply for jobs, contact people through Facebook, messenger, discord, and skype.

I even write with a program up that goes through the web that counts my words and corrects my grammar and punctuation better than any other program I’ve ever used before.

Being without the internet has been a huge adjustment, that I’ve got used to now, hopefully, though it will be fixed before the 1st of November.

Also in this last month, I’ve lost two people that I knew, that I saw as family. One was my best friend’s uncle and the other, an amazing woman I fondly called Noni. Both were amazing people for two completely different reasons.

But their deaths, like every other death that has happened within my life has made me sad. They didn’t send me on a spiral back down the rabbit hole, but they did knock the wind from my sails just a little bit.

It also is a great motivation to get my fitness back on track as both passed from medical issues, that hit a little close to home right now.

Currently, I weigh 170.6 kilos
And my waist is 186cm

The bug I had that turned to pleurisy knocked me a bit, and I did go back to eating the things I shouldn’t as I wasn’t the one that was cooking for a change. But that’s changing.

Roadblocks aside, I’m going to give this my 100% again and shake the weigh-off.

No potatoes, and no bread to start with!

Wish me luck

No Results

This week with my mother’s death anniversary, and a horrible flu that with my asthma has turned into a chest infection I didn’t do any starjumps, situps and barely did more them 5000 steps a day.

I’m still struggling to breath, once that gets better, I’ll be back into it.

On a positive note I didn’t eat my feelings for a change, and I certainly didn’t touch any junk food.

Weighing yourself

When in the correct time to weigh yourself?
Is it in the morning?
The evening?
After your morning routine?
Before or After you’ve completed an intense exercise routine?

I’ve found that my weight fluctuates anywhere from a kilo to 3 through the day, I know its what some people call ‘water weight’ but how accurate can scales be when tracking weight loss if your weight can change so much through the day?

Currently I weight 168.7 while I ‘lost’ the major weight gain of last week, I noticed I haven’t returned to the weight I was previously to before I had my period which was 167.4.

Which had me research the pill or levlen Ed for side effects, weight gain is apparently common in woman who take this medication.

How is that not publicly discussed when you ask about side effects? Then again how many people read the teeny tiny pamphlet that comes with the medication to see what side effects there might actually be?

And deciding to go with weighing myself once a week on a Monday morning at 8am.
While this was a letdown, I know that it wasn’t entirely my fault I hadn’t lost weight. That being said while I’ve upped my step goal to now 7000 with the intent to push myself and can do 30 star jumps whilst sounding like the overweight asthmatic I am, I did cave this week and have pizza for tea.

But my waist is back to the size it was pre monthlies if not smaller with the total loss off my waist so far being 7cms.

This week I’ll be getting rid of sweet sweet bread. And continuing to try and reach the goal of 50 star jumps, and 8000 steps at least three days this week with the intent to make that permanent next week. I’m also going to try some sit ups.

Body Changes

So, this week I weighed in at 170.4 and my waist has gained 5cms.

That a lot of weight/body change within a week, the only thing I can think of that would bring in this dramatic change is that time of the month.

Which shows how much ‘water weight’ a person can gain when its that time of the month.

Completing my step goals, and gradually increasing it is going to be a focus this week, I’m crushing my previous step goal of 5000 steps and plan on working to get it up to the 10,000 mark sooner then later. Along with that I’ve started doing some star jumps in the morning.

Whilst playing with my nephew he was able to do 60 star jumps in one set and I was struggling to do five. So the plan is that I’ll start at 5 and gradually increase it each day by intervals of 2 or 5. I want to push my body as far as I can, keeping myself in the fat burning zone longer.

I’ve also noticed that my sleep score, according to my fitbit app has been gradually improving, whereas I used to have a sleep score of about 30 which is terrible, its crept up to 56. With it showing I’m spending more time in my REM cycle and less time tossing and turning.

Not to mention my resting heart rate. That’s now sitting at 80 beats per minute whereas previously it was at 90 beats per minute. On the Cardiac fitness level, my cardiac health is still sitting in the poor area of the graph, but its slowly changing.

While the rapid weight gain this week sucks, the proof of seeing the changes in my body through the data on the fitbit app, not to mention I can go up and down my extremely hilly long driveway without breathing that heavy I sound like a puffing Billy train is also amazing!

This week I nailed not eating potatoes! The loss of pumpkin wasn’t that hard to be honest as its really not my favourite vegetable.

Next week I plan on focusing more on improving my step goals and doing those star jumps more than cutting out more food.

Starting small

My first week wasn’t as great as I wanted it to be, it did however go better than I expected. The first week I decided to cut out sugar which after going three days I was starting to get flu like symptoms along with being dizzy. Apparently when you go from a high carb high sugar diet to just stopping sugar all together it can make you feel gross.

Which it did, not enough to start eating chocolate, and sugar all over again, it just meant I needed to adjust a little. By eating a piece of fruit at breakfast and a teaspoon of honey to my afternoon black tea I started feeling a little better still fluey but not as dizzy.

I am drinking 1.5L of water a day.

I currently weigh 168.2 Kilos with a waist length of 161cm.

Last week just cutting out the junk food I’ve lost a centimetre off my waist!

This week I plan on cutting out the starchy vegetables.

Weight blog: Twenty-Two

Currently, everything aches.
We planted 160 trees yesterday, all that bending over walking up and down hills and maneuvering those tiny little trees into there, tiny little cartons that are meant to protect them from the elements is a lot of hard work.
It took us 3 hours to plant than all along dad’s boundary line so that he has some privacy from the neighbors.
It was more of a workout then I think I’ve ever done, and if everything doesn’t jiggle like jelly, it aches like I got hit by a truck.
Doing my steps today left my legs feeling like fire was eating them alive.
But in a good way that makes me think I can get use to the burn.
I weigh 169.5

Weight Blog: Twenty One

I did it!

My first weight goal has been reached!!

I currently weight 169.8 kilos, and am so happy I could jump around the house.

The feeling of completing something so mandane to other people has given me a high I havent felt in so long.

There’s no dark shadows in my mind today, even with the weather gloomy outside I still went for a walk. Even listening to music as I cleaned the house.

I feel like I could tackle anything in my path right now.

Its amazing what reaching a goal can do to your mindset.

Bring on goal number two!

Weight Blog: Week Twenty

My weight is 170.5 Kilos.

I’m so close to my first weight goal, for the first time in a long time I am really excited and motivated to move that last half a kilo.

While my feet are a constant pain, with my plantar fasciitis acting up now that I was lost in my head for a month. I’m literally walking through the pain to get to my step goal daily.

I’m aiming for 7000 steps a day at the minute, but the last three days I’ve reached just under 9000 steps mostly because of the Pokemon community day and spending the weekend with my niece and nephew.

I’m going to start introducing some exercise routine in this week, instead of just doing my steps. Hopefully next week I’ll be a little under 170 kilos, and I can open up my gift for my first weight goal reached.

It seems to be taunting me into action now that I’ve moved it from the cupboard to my desk.
